Using Edpuzzle as an anticipation guide Using an anticipation guide before and after reading enables students to activate their prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic. It also helps them make predictions and set a purpose for reading. The teacher prepares a list of statements related to a topic. Students have to determine if these are true/false, whether they agree or disagree with them or choose between possible answers. In this example, we chose to use Edpuzzle since it offers the possibility to add questions at a specific moment in the chosen video. Before starting to use Edpuzzle, you need to use or create a teacher’s account if you don’t have one. You need to provide your professional credentials. Once your account is opened, you can find your own content on the left side. To create a new interactive video, Click on Add content and select the right option. If you are using a YouTube video and you already know the address of your clip, select discover video content and copy and paste it into the search bar. Once your video is ready to use, There are different options to choose from; cut, voiceover and questions. Questions could be multiple -choice questions, open-ended questions or simply notes. Watch the video and pause when you want to add a statement. For the purpose of the anticipation guide, choose the open-ended question because we don’t want to display a right or wrong answer. It’s the discussion that’s important. In this example, the teacher selects an open-ended question, types the statement and saves it. A little symbol appears on the timeline of the video to help visualize it. Continue the process for each question or statement you want your students to discuss. Click on Finish when you are done. It’s ready to share. You can assign it to a class, modify its visibility and then share it as a preview with a link. You can decide to give the sharing to students so they use it on their device OR project it on the screen. When the video stops, they discuss the statement with their partners. If you want to learn how to assign the videos to a classroom and other features of Edpuzzle, we added a link to a playlist in the show notes below. Video: Using Eduzzle as an Anticipation Guide
