[Music] Hi, today I will show you how to frontload vocabulary using digital flashcards. Frontloading vocabulary is an efficient strategy to introduce the vocabulary before the viewing or reading of a text to improve the students’ understanding of text upon first reading. It's essential that the teacher carefully selects key vocabulary to frontload. There are different digital tools for making online flashcards. I chose Quizlet because it's easy to use, it works on any device, and offers different study modes. Be aware that your students must be 13 years and older to use Quizlet; students under 13 can use Quizlet with parental consent. So, I will first go to quizlet.com and sign in with my professional email. For this one, I signed up with Google. What I want to do is create a new study set for my students. As you can see, I've created a list of 12 words that I found very pertinent for the topic and I wasn't sure my students would know these 12 words: aircraft, leaflets, to ripple, Nazi, concentration camp, propaganda, indoctrination, the national effort, rebel, sabotage, treason, and gestapo. So, these are the 12 words I carefully selected. Then, I asked artificial intelligence to create the definitions for me instead of looking for them in the dictionary. I've read all of them to make sure they had the correct definitions before introducing them in my Quizlet. I added the logo here for you to see. When you use artificial intelligence to create something, it's important to mention it and to be transparent with your use of artificial intelligence. So, I carefully selected the 12 words I wanted them to know and frontload before reading or viewing the text. I will generate new flashcards. For this specific task, I have already selected the 12 words and their definitions, so I'll just copy and paste the words from the document I have prepared and shown you. Then, I'll click on "start transforming," so the AI in Quizlet will create my flashcards for me. I have my first word. If I click on it, I have my definition. This is the study set for my students. I have options here that I can activate: spaced repetition, cards sorting, study only starred items. The students can star the different items that they had trouble understanding. But for this specific task, they'll be frontloading the vocabulary, so it's not really for a study set. There you go. My flashcards are ready. As you can see, it even put them into categories: definitions and concepts, historical and political terms, and challenges to authority. That's interesting as well. If I want to share these with my students, I'll click on share. I can share them on Google Classroom, or I could copy this link and share it with the students for them to do the quiz. Also, if you want to edit any of your different questions, you can click on the little pencil to make your question or flashcard editable. I'll save it like this. You also have different play modes that you can see here: learn, test, match. The student can choose either one of them. When I created my quiz, it gave it this name. I don't want this name, so I'll call this front loading vocabulary. There you go. If I want to edit one of the questions, I can come here and edit my flashcards. So, I'll see my title, which I just changed. It should be changed already. Here, I have all the words and definitions. I could add an image if I wanted to. I click on done. The next time I come to my Quizlet, I can access my library and my study set. You'll see my study set is right here. It might take a moment for it to change the title, but it's right here. I hope this was useful for you. Thank you. [Music]
