    Developing Competency 2 Using Digital Technology at the Secondary Level

    Overview of the course

    Welcome to your "Developing Competency 2 Using Digital Technology at the Secondary Level" online training, Visiteur anonyme! We're thrilled to have you join us on this journey of learning and discovery.

    This course was developed to address the need to better understand the development of Competency 2 through the use of technology. If you have other needs or require further support regarding Competency 2, please feel free to contact your pedagogical consultant, your local RÉCIT, or the person responsible for ESL at your School Service Centre. They will be happy to assist you with any additional resources or guidance you may need.

    This course is also available in hybrid mode in some School Service Centres.  Contact your ESL consultant for more information.


    Purpose: to consolidate understanding of C2 and to determine when and how to leverage technology to develop students' C2 competency

    Design 01

    Length: 90 minutes

    The "Design 01" badge is awarded to the learner who:

    • explores examples of pedagogical uses of technology that can be used to prepare students before introducing texts,
    • prepares an activity using a digital tool of their choice for this purpose and, 
    • shares the activity or sequence.

    Design 02

    Design badge

    Length: 90 minutes

    The "Design 02 badge is awarded to the learner who:

    • explores examples of pedagogical uses of technology that can be used to support students as they construct the meaning of a text,
    • prepares an activity using a digital tool of their choice for this purpose and, 
    • shares the activity or sequence.

    Transfer

    Transfer badge

    Length: 150 minutes

    The "Transfer" badge is awarded to the learner who:

    • analyzes an existing C2 learning and evaluation situation (LES) with the intention of ensuring it is a solid reinvestment task,
    • ensures that the LES includes activities to prepare students before introducing texts, as well as activities for students to explore and respond to texts to construct their meaning. If necessary, the learner creates additional activities that integrate digital technology to address any gaps or missing elements,
    • proposes two reinvestment tasks that integrate technology to enhance or improve the final reinvestment task if no digital technology option was present in the original LES.

    Module 1 - Explore, Respond, and Reinvest

    Introduction

    This module presents a comprehensive overview of the text types in the secondary ESL programs.  Additionally it offers a thorough review of the response process as well as the characteristics of a solid reinvestment task.

    Objectives

    By the end of this module, you will consolidate your understanding of:

    • text types;
    • the response process;
    • copyrights;
    • solid reinvestment tasks.

    Module 2 - A Tech Infused Model

    Introduction

    In this module, we explore how integrating digital technology can improve the efficacy of developing Competency 2 for both teachers and students. 

    You will discover innovative ways to enrich the learning experience for both you and your students.
