When digital technology is used appropriately in the classroom it has the potential to improve learning, harness motivation, and encourage creativity. However, it is important to keep in mind that technology is not the goal and we need to plan for the integration of technology with a learning intention in mind.

Let's take a look at what the Ministry of Education of Quebec (MEQ) says about integrating technology.

"To support students in developing their ESL competencies, it is important to provide not only relevant tools and resources but also information and communications technologies (ICT).  These technologies must be made available to students as they play a pivotal role in motivating students to learn by utilizing authentic examples of the English language that are current and align with today's reality. To illustrate the increased efficiency and see the added value in developing C2 through the integration of digital technology, we will utilize texts from a unit “The Power of One”. Students will select, organize and adapt information from a variety of texts to produce a text to pay tribute to an inspiring young adult.

You will explore these texts as well as some proposed digital activities to help students develop C2.

Take notes in your personal booklet as you discover new tools or new ways to utilize them. These tools are extremely versatile and can serve multiple purposes and answer a variety of intentions, for example, word clouds can be used to frontload vocabulary, to activate prior knowledge, or even as an exit ticket.

*Note that these texts are excerpts from a complete learning situation and are used for illustration purposes only.
