    Overview of the course

    Welcome to your "Developing Competency 2 Using Digital Technology at the Elementary Level" online training, Visiteur anonyme! We're thrilled to have you join us on this journey of learning and discovery.

    This course was developed to address the need to better understand the development of Competency 2 through the use of technology. If you have other needs or require further support regarding Competency 2, please feel free to contact your pedagogical consultant, your local RÉCIT, or the person responsible for ESL at your School Service Centre. They will be happy to assist you with any additional resources or guidance you may need.

    This course is also available in hybrid mode in some School Service Centres. Contact your ESL consultant for more information.

    : to consolidate understanding of C2 and to determine when and how to leverage technology to develop students' C2 competency

    Audience : Elementary English as a Second Language Teachers and Consultants

    Length: approximately 8 hours

    The "Transfer" badge is awarded to the learner who analyses an existing C2 learning and evaluation situation in order to make it solid.  The learner also suggests two different reinvestment tasks that integrate technology and tries it out with students.

    This module presents the importance of developing C2 competency Reinvest understanding of texts with an emphasis on some of the undeniable benefits of leveraging digital technology in the fast-paced ESL classroom.  

    Objectives

    By the end of this module, you will:

    • validate your understanding of C2
    • understand the importance of developing C2
    • understand the importance of developing C2 using digital technology

  • Module 1: Prepare Students

    Introduction

    This module presents the importance of taking time to prepare students to listen to, read and view a variety of text types. You will be introduced to digital activities that can be used with students during the preparation phase. You will be invited to reflect on your practice and transfer what you learn into your classroom.   

    Objectives

    By the end of this module, you will:

    • understand the different text types and text forms
    • know how to introduce a topic to develop strategies using digital technology
    • know how to prepare student to read texts
    • validate your understanding of what is needed to prepare to listen to and read texts

  • Module 2: Construct the Meaning of Texts

    Introduction

    When students develop their Competency 2, they need to construct their meaning of the texts, enabling them to better understand their content and become better equipped to demonstrate their understanding and carry out a reinvestment task. 

    In this module, you will explore the different ways technology can help students as they construct the meaning of texts. 

    Objectives

    By the end of this module, you will:

    • know what is constructing the meaning according to our ESL program
    • know how technology can help students as they construct the meaning of texts.

    Duration : 195 minutes

  • Module 3 - Reinvest Understanding of Texts

    Introduction

    In this module, you will review the characteristics of a solid reinvestment task and what elementary students are able to do according to their level. Examples of digital reinvestment tasks will also be presented. 

    Objectives

    By the end of this module, you will:

    • know what is constructing the meaning according to our ESL program
    • know how technology can help students as they construct the meaning of texts.

    Duration : 195 minutes
