What is Reinvesting Understanding of Texts?

In the previous module, you reviewed and discovered how  technology can help in the construction of the meaning of texts so that students can demonstrate their understanding of texts.

At this stage, students should now be ready to use that knowledge in the proposed final task. In order to fully develop Competency 2, students need to reinvest their understanding of texts.

In a reinvestment task, students should be able to select relevant information from the provided texts, organize that information in a coherent manner and personalize/adapt it in light of the purpose and audience so that it can only be carried out using the texts that are provided.

Guiding Students

Of course, students will need to be guided throughout the process.

Elementary Cycle Two

By carrying out simple reinvestment tasks, students can reuse knowledge (information, ideas, and language) from the provided texts. These tasks must be scaffolded, meaning they are structured in a step-by-step manner. Students in this cycle rely heavily on the texts, models of the final product, and any planning tools given, such as templates.

Elementary Cycle Three

While students still reinvest knowledge (information, ideas, and language) from the provided texts, they gain the ability to craft a final product with a specific purpose and target audience in mind. Reinvestment tasks remain scaffolded, offering students models of the expected outcome and planning tools (templates, for example) to guide their product development.
